The Position

Reporting to the chief executive officer and a senior member of the executive team, the chief financial officer (CFO) is a strategic partner who provides financial leadership, business acumen and strategic vision to ensure that the organization has clear insights into the key drivers and performance metrics to ensure financial strength and optimal operating efficiency. 

The successful candidate will be a driven leader who will bring focus to the right priorities. He/she will ensure the integrity of the financial statements and reporting process, support the CEO in managing the company’s overall business strategy and prioritizing capital allocation, and execute transactional projects. The CFO will oversee the capital structure, cash flow needs, financial risk management and a multi-billion-dollar pension investment portfolio. He/she will also manage corporate financial functions such as treasury and cash management operations and risk management, credit risk, taxation and operational finance for all business segments.

The CFO will manage financial systems and internal controls, and lead process improvement initiatives. He/she will foster positive relationships with investors and financial institutions. The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills, solid business judgment, good interpersonal skills, analytical strength and the ability to drive results without losing sight of the big picture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a key member of the executive team and directly influence the business priorities and strategies through leadership, strategic analysis and financial expertise;
  • Act as a business partner to the CEO to manage the company’s overall business strategy, execute transactional projects and capital allocation decision-making;
  • Lead a team of 350+, including 10 direct reports, covering management and financial accounting, treasury and investor relations, taxation, strategy and mergers & acquisitions, procurement and shared services;
  • Ensure the integrity of financial statements and manage the reporting process, external and internal;
  • Oversee the capital structure, cash flow needs, liquidity and financial risk management, and manage the processes for financial forecasting and budgets;
  • Manage global procurement operations and key corporate financial functions such as treasury and cash management operations, risk management, credit, taxation and operational finance for the company’s four business segments; 
  • Establish and develop effective relationships with senior leaders, external partners and stakeholders, such as investors, financial institutions and operating communities.

Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or commerce;
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent; CFA or MBA is an asset;
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant business experience in complex, fast-paced, large publicly-held multi-entity manufacturing environments;
  • Solid knowledge of U.S. GAAP and public company reporting standards;
  • A creative and strategic thinker with a strong transactional and deal experience;
  • Entrepreneurial mindset combined with a collaborative leadership style;
  • Solid track record in attracting, developing and retaining strong, qualified and diverse professionals;
  • Ability to inspire confidence and to create trust;
  • Superior presentation and written communication skills in both English and French;
  • Highly energetic, pragmatic and approachable;
  • Excellent judgment of situations and people, combined with great intellectual rigor;
  • Impeccable integrity.
